About the Author

Rhenna St. Clair, a Portland, Oregon, native, arrived in New Mexico in 1992. Fascinated by the beauty of the land and its history, the archaeological sites and the mix of cultures, she can't imagine living anywhere else. A licensed acupuncturist and practitioner of Chinese medicine, St. Clair has traveled in China as well as in India and other parts of Asia. She now practices Chinese medicine and acupuncture in northern New Mexico. Getting New Mexico is her first book.

"Getting New Mexico moves along like a summer monsoon, building to a delightful climax. Part love story and part comedic hero's journey, the story is filled with quirky and diverse characters and unlikely situations right out of real life. A fun read from start to finish."--Anne Hillerman, New York Times bestselling author of the Manuelito, Chee, and Leaphorn mysteries
"Getting New Mexico is a fascinating portrait of the human experience. Schuyler's unique perspective on New Mexico and his own life reflects times many readers have stopped and wondered how they ended up where they are. Schuyler may take this to heights most readers haven't, but his quest to understand will captivate readers and leave them thinking."--DelSheree Gladden, author of the Eliza Carlisle Mystery series
"Getting New Mexico is a delightful tale of personal redemption set against the backdrop of a northern New Mexico in which even the most jaded of newcomers might find magic behind adobe walls and love blooming amid the chamisa."--C. Joseph Greaves, author of Church of the Graveyard Saints
"Readers will absolutely adore charming 77-year-old Clementine Schuyler and her free spirit bad boy son who proves at age 52 that it's never too late to up your game and get your life back on track. Rhenna St. Clair tells their story with heart and finesse. Don't miss this feel-good book."--C.C. Harrison, author of Death by G-String, a Coyote Canyon Ladies Ukulele Club Mystery, winner of the 2019 Colorado Humanities Book Award
"Sometimes a pilgrimage to the desert is what is needed to find the best light to shine on our true selves. A story of redemption, love, and second chances, Getting New Mexico is a bright and beautiful read."--Lynne Hinton, author of Pie Town and The Art of Arranging Flowers
"Manhattan meets the sage-brush desert of New Mexico in this entertaining novel of a man's reluctant journey toward redemption. I don't know which I enjoyed more -- the idiosyncratic characters or the vivid descriptions of Santa Fe and its denizens. Altogether an enjoyable read!"--Margaret Coel, New York Times best-selling author of Winter's Child
"A humorous fish-out-of-water tale ... lifelong moocher and dedicated laze-about Aaron Schuyler meets a cast of quirky New Mexicans who teach him what it means to be a part of something larger than himself."--Scott Graham, Four Corners Free Press
"Getting New Mexico is a humorous, quirky novel, and Schuyler's quips about himself are both clever and funny. Schuyler is a sometimes exasperating but endearing character, and you can't beat the Nambe and Santa Fe settings."--Denver Post
