It is insightful that she focuses on this important government function as it constitutes such an important share of public budgets while shaping markets, creating incentives and providing essential services. Merve Hickok presents us with this timely primer for tackling the essential socio-technical dimensions of public procurement, along with concrete advice to ensure ethical guardrails and solid policy frameworks are in place, much in line with the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of AI."Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director General, Social and Human Sciences Sector, UNESCO "Emphasizing the enormous impact of procurement practices, Hickok provides a detailed roadmap for those who are tasked with making critical decisions about the development and deployment of AI systems in the public sector.
