Description

Through four weeks of daily meditations, Finding God Abiding identifies movements that run like threads through the story of our lives. We awaken to the world around us, discover and rediscover our path, practice love in its many forms, and grieve the loss of much that we hold dear. Gazing too closely at the tangled strands and frayed knots of our false starts and failures, often we see just the back of the tapestry, and one square inch at a time. Only God beholds it whole: not a random collection of short stories, but one great narrative of grace at work. Drawing on the author's thirty years in ministry and her Jesuit education, each meditation contains a true story, a nugget of spiritual insight, thought-provoking questions, and a memorable Scripture quote. The recollections are simple: biting into a juicy peach; mending a broken pipe; weeping over a parent's death. These common experiences invite the reader to consider their own story and discover there the God who abides as the one constant in a life marked by ceaseless change.

Reviews

"She reminds us of the Beauty that unites us in heart and soul as we let go of past securities and head forward together into an uncertain future. Savor this book and know that you are not alone." --Bro. Michael McGrath, OSFS, Artist, Author, and Storyteller

"Finding God Abiding reads like a conversation with that wise and trusted friend who is engaged in the same questions and quandaries we all are: Who am I--really? How can I make sense of my life? Where is God in all this mess? Through anecdotes told simply and wisely, with Scriptural wisdom, guiding questions, and a generous dash of humor tossed in, Christine Eberle invites us into her life of faith and helps us to find 'the one Companion of our endless life' in our own stories." --Br. Chris Derby, SJ, Provincial Assistant for Spiritual Ministries, USA East Jesuits

"'Good questions are hospitable, ' notes Eberle. 'Gracious questions help the hearers bring their own truth to light.' In this book, Eberle's short, often poignant stories regularly testify to the power of good and gracious questions others have asked her, helping her to find God's voice in a messy world. But more importantly, Finding God Abiding is filled with good and gracious questions that Eberle dares to ask us, her readers. I am slowly working through this book as a personal retreat for myself and discovering my journal overflows with new 'truths' coming 'to light.'" --Ann Garrido, Associate Professor of Homiletics, Aquinas Institute of Theology

"Like a four-movement Mozart symphony that arrests attention, prompts reflection, provokes a smile, and elicits tears of joy as the music makes its way into our souls, Finding God Abiding is a masterful, heartwarming collection of brief daily meditations which, stitched together like a beautiful tapestry, portrays the ways in which a God who actually abides with us can be perceived, embraced, trusted, known. Eberle has given us a book that I will return to time and time again, just as I do the Mozart symphonies of long ago." --Jeff Crosby, author of Language of the Soul: How God Meets Us in the Longings of Our Hearts

"Christine Eberle's new book, Finding God Abiding, reminds us in the gentlest of ways to remember to love, to experience life, and to question, even as we live with a God we don't always understand. In times as uncertain as these, it perfectly assures us that it is acceptable to be imperfect. With stories that find meaning in the everyday, Finding God Abiding urges us to look deeper as we Perceive, Become, Embrace, and Release our lives to a God who never leaves us. Even though we may be "slow learners," we are, as Christine reminds us, 'loved by a patient teacher.' This book will live by my bedside and be a balm to my spirit daily." --Mary Fran Bontempo, Two-time TEDx Speaker and Award-winning author of The 15 Minute Master and Brilliantly Resilient
