Reviews

"Exquisite imagery and lyricism. . . . The verses have a sense of rhythm that encourages the reader to pause and reflect."

--Canning House "British Bulletin of Publications" (10/1/2004 12:00:00 AM)

"An irrepressible splash of color links the forty-two poems in this new collection. . . . The reader will detect a persistent sense of images captured on the run, where the themes of the various poems refuse to pretend to deep meaning, but celebrate instead the glow of surface, the beauty of the concrete, and the shifting light that shines through words that sometimes appear to have been flung randomly onto the page. One can imagine this lyric imagination having spread all the poems out in a row and run lightly down the line flinging random spatters of color from a series of mischievously dripping brushes, like a translation of a Jackson Pollock painting into words."--Foreword

Foreword Magazine Book of the Year Award, Silver Rank (translation), 2002 --Foreword "Foreword Magazine" (4/26/2006 12:00:00 AM)
"Olivia Maciel's poems combine simplicity and passion to a degree rarely found in today's poetry. They offer observations so intense that they become voluminous occasions of transcendence. She is a remarkable poet."--Mark Strand
"Olivia Maciel in her Filigree of Light gives us testimony of a poet who has discovered and applied what the word already is, and I cite her: a 'form of light...spring, stream of sonorous current.' It only remains for us to accompany her in seeing, feeling, listening...."--Alberto Blanco
