About the Author

Catherine Duncan, MA, BCC, is passionate about wholeperson healing. Her focus as an integrative spiritual consultant is emotional and spiritual health. With a reverence for the sacredness of life, she companions individuals who are struggling with chronic illness, life transitions, grief and loss, and those searching for more meaning and purpose.

She sees clients through her own private practice, Learning to Live, LLC, and as a consultant with Minnesota Personalized Medicine, an integrative medical practice in Minneapolis.

In her work, she draws on her experience as a board-certified chaplain and certified spiritual director; her training in positive neuroplasticity with Rick Hanson, PhD; and her education in a range of alternative healing modalities, including Reiki, Healing Touch, qigong, the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)/tapping, and sound healing.

As a public speaker, she frequently delivers talks on stress and resiliency, self-compassion, self-care, neuroplasticity, and awakening to organizations and companies in person and virtually. Her writing is featured on the website for the University of Minnesota's Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality and Healing, the Institute for Well-Being in Law's website, and in the textbook Integrative Medicine by David Rakel, MD (5th edition, Elsevier, November 2022).

Catherine has served as a spiritual-care provider with Fairview Home Care and Hospice, Hennepin Healthcare, and the Good Samaritan Society. An ordained minister with the United Church of Christ, she received her MA in theology and her spiritual direction certificate from St. Catherine University (St. Paul, Minnesota). She also holds a master of divinity equivalency from United Theological Seminary (New Brighton, Minnesota).

In addition to her deep professional background, Catherine teaches from her three personal awakening experiences, including a brush with death that opened her gifts as a mystic and intuitive. These spiritual gifts, which include the ability to see spirits, support her work of helping people open into their souls.

She lives in Minneapolis with her husband and two dogs, Bella and Gigi, and is the mother of two adult children. For more, please visit her website: learningtolive.org.

"In this beautifully written, intelligent, yet heart-centered work, Catherine Duncan has merged a traditional religious orientation with cutting-edge psychological insights and tools that will empower the aspiring soul on its way to awakening." - JOHN RUSKAN, author of Emotional Clearing and Deep Clearing
"While many traditional religions focus on being 'chosen, ' spirituality is, in the end, about what we choose. In Everyday Awakening, Catherine Duncan reminds us that awakening isn't an incident--it's an action, one we're each capable of taking. Duncan, who's been through some harrowing experiences herself, serves as a loving guide on the path to awakening as a way of life." - TERRI TRESPICIO, author of Unfollow Your Passion: How to Create a Life That Matters to You
"How to awaken? That is the question and Catherine Duncan has the answer. She draws on her decades of spiritual practice and her deep humanity to point you in the right direction and to instill your journey with purpose and meaning." RICHARD J. LEIDER, bestselling author of The Power of Purpose, Repacking Your Bags, and Who Do You Want to Be When You Grow Old?
"I AM ALIVE. Can you embrace that statement and wear it boldly? Sense your soul in the poetry of every moment? You deserve to--and Catherine Duncan's book, Everyday Awakening, points the way to loving every darn second of your existence. This is more than another self-help assurance of 'happily ever after.' Catherine's gritty life experiences, including childhood cancer and serving as a hospice chaplain, means that every point made and practice shared is gripping and powerful. This is not just another self-help guidebook; it's an initiation into everyday and genuine enlightenment." -CYNDI DALE, author of 30-plus internationally renowned books about energy healing, including the award-winning The Subtle Body series and Energy Healing for Trauma, Stress & Chronic Illness
"The word 'breathe' in Japanese is written with two characters, 'heart' and 'self, ' and the two together spell 'presence.' Catherine Duncan's new book is both a metaphor for and an embodiment of this great wisdom." - PETER M. LITCHFIELD, PHD, president, Professional School of Behavioral Health Sciences
