About the Author

David Wichman is an author, speaker, sexual healer, and entrepreneur passionate about his message. He is respected and well-known all over the world to those who seek to renew themselves and explore ways to live a fulfilling life free of stigma, shame, and fear around sex, love, and intimacy. Raised in Fremont, California, David survived a childhood marked by severe neglect and physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. The trauma of his early life led him into years of homelessness, alcoholism, and drug addiction. After decades of struggle and rehabilitation failures, he finally obtained freedom from his addiction in 2005. He remains an active member in New Thought and recovery movements to this day. In 2006, when David began his journey into sex work, unbeknownst to him he found his calling. While working with sometimes marginalized men, such as seniors, the disabled, and those with severe intimacy issues, he discovered the profound transformational power that sex work creates for both client and provider. In 2009, David founded travel-companion company The Male Adventure through which he has accompanied clients on life-changing adventures to all seven continents. His trips have featured safaris in the Serengeti, bungee jumping in New Zealand, swimming with humpback whales in Tonga, treks to mountain gorillas in Uganda, and much more. He believes his connection to conservation, wildlife, and different cultures has given him a more intuitive ability to respond to the human condition. He is an activist, vocal ally, and grateful member of the LGBTQI2 community and stays connected to current or emerging issues that dominate marginalized communities. He is a passionate fundraiser for HIV- and AIDS-related causes and other nonprofits supporting other-abled persons and benefiting animal rescues. In 2011, he created and began facilitating a workshop called "Sex, Love, and Intimacy: Writing Your Way to New Relationships" for recovery conferences and retreats. Groups have used his highly sought-after writing workshop in Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Sydney, Australia, with great success. In 2016, David and his partners, Carl and Todd, founded Heal-VR, a software development company that merges ancient spiritual principles and meditation techniques with modern virtual reality technology. Heal-VR creates content that offers users a deeper and more profound meditative experience. Undergirding all of David's personal and professional efforts has been a deep and abiding mystical spirituality. He is currently a student of the Course in Miracles and utilizes New Thought practices, such as life visioning, creative visualization, and meditation. While he has studied the works of many modern healers, his deeper healing in recovery has been under the guidance of his spiritual mentor, T. J. Woodward. David's spiritual practices have brought him an overwhelming sense of gratitude and an unending wealth of forgiveness and joy on his journey to true wholeness. David lives with his partners and their three dogs in the Coachella Valley area of California.

Reviews

"David Wichman is a true original, a unique spirit. He combines openheartedness with erotic wisdom and a tender appreciation of the wounded, of the lonely, of all that's human in the most and least approachable of us. I will always be interested in what he has to report from that frontier where sex and spirit and loving-kindness merge." --Patrick Mulcahey, television writer, The Bold and the Beautiful

"David Wichman truly understands the transformational cycle of trauma and recovery. His unique words of wisdom and heart-centered perspective are a force for good among everyone who encounters him. He has earned the love, respect, and admiration of so many other people who have struggled through the ups and downs of life. I wholeheartedly believe that Every Grain of Sand will have a memorable, wide-reaching impact." --Sarah Prout, best-selling author, motivational speaker, founder of Manifesting Academy

"David Wichman's memoir grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. It blew my mind! Not only because of the events David survived as a child and his subsequent struggle to be free of the demons of his past, but that he writes with such clarity and honesty. His transformation is beyond miraculous. In the end, the book goes from memoir to self-help as we witness David's transformation from victim to guru, but without an ounce of self-importance. Only love, gratitude and forgiveness." --Nelsie Spencer, novelist and screenwriter

"David Wichman's powerfully positive spirit permeates every room he enters. Having known him now for more than ten years, I can say Every Grain of Sand is a perfect title for his journey. Though unique, his words lend a healing perspective to all. I adore him as a person. I respect him as a being who found peaceful strength through his trials in life. Like a phoenix, he is an inspiration, and I'm so proud to call him my friend. Savor his words of wisdom with love in your heart." --Debby Holiday, No. 1 Billboard dance recording artist and daughter of Jimmy Holiday

"Every Grain of Sand is a brave and compelling memoir of recovery from the almost unimaginable abuse David Wichman experienced as a child and later inflicted on himself with alcoholism and drug addiction. It is not, however, a sad tale of victimization. Instead, David's essentially hopeful and resilient nature illuminates his story. His journey is ultimately a spiritual one told with honesty and conviction. He is also to be commended for writing frankly, positively, and unapologetically about his career as a sex worker and male companion. I've been telling him for years to write his story, and I'm glad he finally got around to it."--Michael Nava, Lambda Literary Award winner of the Henry Rios novels

"Brutal and wonderful. It amazed me by revealing the number of emotions still unnamed."--Bud Gundy, Emmy Award-winning producer, and Lambda Literary Award finalist

"No matter the circumstance, David's story demonstrates that love, compassion, and forgiveness encourage acceptance and healing." --Mary Mazurek, GRAMMY-nominated recording engineer
