About the Author

Alongside a career in academic and trade publishing, CJ (Carol) Verburg helped found the Provincetown Playwrights' Lab and headed Cape Cod theater companies in Provincetown, Bourne, and Cotuit. There she produced the late artist Edward Gorey's many original "entertainments," and directed scripts ranging from Hamlet (with a Gorey set design) to under-the-radar U.S. debuts of Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle and Peter Shaffer's The Gift of the Gorgon (by special permission from the authors). Carol's own plays include The Whistling Pig (Cotuit; honorable mention, Jane Chambers Award), The Abduction (Bourne; Utah Shakespearean Festival), Lady Day in Love (Bourne, Sandwich, San Francisco), and Spin, or Twilight of the Bohemians (winner, 2011 Ashland New Plays Festival and 2012 Women Playwrights Series, Centenary Stage Co.) She currently lives and works in San Francisco, writing the Edgar Rowdey Cape Cod mystery series (Croaked, Zapped) and the Cory Goodwin mystery series (Silent Night Violent Night, Another Number for the Road), starring the journalist daughter of Rex Stout's detective Archie Goodwin. Carol is also the founder and leader of the Indie Publishers' Working Group, editor of the quarterly Semaphore, and a member of Sisters in Crime.
