Reviews
"The best book on the Syrian Civil War, hands down."--Joshua Landis, Director, Center for Middle East Studies, and the author of Syria Comment blog
"Nikolaos van Dam, Dutch ambassador to five countries over a 30-year span, is one of the most respected experts in the world on Syria. Destroying a Nation is a companion to his masterpiece Struggle for Power in Syria, first issued in 1979 and completely redone in 1996 (CH, Nov'96, 34-1781). On this contentious issue, Van Dam fully presents the theses of those with whom he disagrees."-- (01/01/2018)
