About the Author

Akasha Rabut is a photographer and educator based in New Orleans. Her work explores multi-cultural phenomena and tradition rooted in the American South. Akasha is also the founder of Creative Council, a mentoring program for young people in New Orleans pursuing careers in the arts. Akasha's photographs have appeared in museums and galleries around the world. She holds a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.

For 10 years, Akasha Rabut has been documenting New Orleans and the social tribes who bring it to life. Now, the stories are published in her first photobook, Death Magick Abundance, a collection of dynamic images that capture the sound and style of New Orleans. - British Journal of Photography, March 2020
Through her collaborations with the many people who make New Orleans unique, Rabut has created a moving tribute to the city, which has also left its mark on her. - Washington Post, April 2020
To look at Akasha Rabut's first monograph, you'd be forgiven for expecting something other than a photobook inside, but its pink-fronted, star-marked cover is only half as curious as its name. Death Magick Abundance, published by Anthology Editions, refers to the photographer's own understanding of New Orleans' cycles of life: things die in order to bring others to life. Designed by local artist and tattooist, Pauly Lingerfelt, the cover itself suggests something of Haitian spell magic. -Wallpaper Mag, March 2020
