About the Author

Jennifer Sterling holds a B.A. in Psychology, a Master's degree in Education, and a passion for complex and interesting linguistics. She finds little thrill in using up precious moments of expression by saying things simply. Her first publication "How to Train Your Servants: The First Year of Benevolent Rulership, One Baby's Reflections" offers a cheeky take on the new-parenthood experience, and wry humor can be expected as a staple in her other works. She enjoys living in sunny San Diego, CA with her husband and son.

"The letters in this book represent different women's voices. However, they are connected, from Harriet Tubman's struggle to Michelle Obama's triumph. Anyone can learn lessons from this book of poetry. Although the title is geared toward a specific demographic, the struggles of black women are not so unique that non-black women can't relate. Ms. Sterling's poetry provides universal insight on how to overcome personal struggles and obstacles. That's why I highly recommend "Dear Strong Black Woman" to all women."
-Debra Gloster, writer at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

I have never read ANYTHING that has made me feel this SEEN. It's the sweetest love letter to those who are a rock for everyone else, but are often taken for granted. Dear Strong Black Woman dares to disrupt what we've been taught about self-love and self-care. This book is a literary balm, soothing mind, body and spirit. I can't wait to gift it to all of the Strong Black Women that I know.
-Peachie Wimbush-Polk

A real life depiction of every black woman's struggle and strength. Each letter captures the essence of a black woman's heart.
