About the Author
Steve Lynch started playing bass guitar in 1968 but switched over to guitar the day his hero, Jimi Hendrix, died: September 18th, 1970. He graduated from the Guitar Institute of Technology in 1979 earning the Most Likely to Succeed award. While attending GIT he wrote his first bestselling book, The Right Touch, a book about two-handed guitar playing. Steve’s unique skills launched a storied career participating in a variety of rock bands including the famed Autograph and touring with headliners such as Van Halen, Mötley Crüe, Aerosmith, Ronnie James Dio, Whitesnake, Brian Adams, and Heart. His band Autograph signed with RCA records and recorded three albums, producing the mega-hit Turn Up the Radio and selling more than five million copies. Steve also wrote two additional instructional books, recorded an instructional video, taught 325 clinics in twenty countries, recorded a solo album (Network 23), owned and operated a music school, and is now in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with his band Autograph in Cleveland, Ohio.

"Confessions of a Rock Guitarist" is a journey that you'll enjoy. As a 16-yr old guitar player from NYC not knowing anyone in LA, I was lucky enough to somehow connect with Steve. Calling the Guitar Institute of Technology, a jazz school primarily, it was a gift when someone said- well there’s this one guy in the back who's always here that might give you lessons. Meeting and connecting with Steve was one of the powerful moments as a musician, someone who had what I wanted and was patient and kind and took the time to teach, show and explain the intricacies and details of what makes this our spiritual journey so meaningful. His feel, touch, knowledge, enthusiasm and friendship are one that has made me the musician I am today. The foundation, encouragement and trust he gave to me is why we pass it on. That is like the pick Jeff Beck gave Steve, that’s how profound what Steve has given me all these years. I am forever grateful for his mentorship and kindness to a kid who just wanted to rock. Suddenly, the 90s came and made guitar solos “lame”. “We just wanna hear songs about misery and abuse!” exclaimed the cd buying masses. Well, they missed out on some spectacular playing. Steve is a virtuoso on the guitar with an “aw shucks” kind of humbleness to go along with it. In the 35 years we’ve known each other we still stay in touch. He’s quick with a joke and full of insight that keeps me on the phone with him for hours. Like me, he’s had his share of triumphs and disappointments in the music business.
