About the Author

Rabbi Paul Steinberg is a nationally renowned Jewish educator and a professional staff member at Beit T'Shuvah, the acclaimed recovery center in Los Angeles. Previously a rabbi at Valley Beth Shalom congregation in Encino, California, his books include the three-volume series Celebrating the Jewish Year, which won the National Jewish Book Award.

Adam Rhine has been creating ornate, highly detailed Judaic watercolor paintings since 1999. His style is heavily influenced by medieval illuminated manuscripts, and he combines that inspiration with modern palettes and aesthetics. Rhine's book, Hebrew Illuminations, is a collection of all 22 Hebrew illuminated letters as well as 22 of his most well-known Magen David paintings. It also includes art from his sketchbook and text descriptions of the meaning behind each design. Rhine's artwork illustrates the covers and chapters in the three-book educational series Celebrating the Jewish Year by Paul Steinberg.

"Reading Celebrating the Jewish Year is a great way to prepare for the holidays; it would also make an excellent text for a classroom or discussion groups. Those interested in the Jewish holidays will want to add it to their collection."--Off The Shelf

"The last installment in Paul Steinberg's 'Celebrating' series is, like the others, a rich resource for understanding the Jewish holidays and laws."--Hadassah Magazine

"Helpful and informative as well as pleasurable reading, the book's mixture of styles ranges from popular, reasoned, conceptual, to more scholarly."--Jewish Book World

Each holiday is explained fully; descriptions of traditional customs and observances are offered, along with differing perspectives on the significance of the holiday, ways to interpret the appropriate texts, and alternative meditations."--Linda F. Burghardt, Jewish Book Council-- (7/31/2017 12:00:00 AM)
