When a prominent New Orleans judge is brutally murdered, former Detroit cop Quentin Archer is handed the case. His enquiries will lead him into a world of darkness and mysticism which underpins the carefree atmosphere of the Big Easy. "The first in this series is a wonderful story, with great characters in Quentin and Solange. There are a number of other characters that add ambience who aid Quentin such as Matebo, a pickpocket, and Mike, the bartender. I look forward to the next in the series. Enjoyed this hugely and recommend highly. Thanks to Severn House for an ARC"--Paromjit Hayers "GoodReads"
"The working out of this prophecy is at the core of the narrative, giving Bruns' mystery a nice case of the creeps"-- "Booklist"
"This thriller immediately casts a spell on you and doesn't let you go until the very last page! Utterly compelling, rich with atmosphere and characters you'll never forget, Casting Bones finds author Bruns at the top of his game. And I can't think of a better portrayal of the most exotic city in America: New Orleans."--International bestselling author Jeffery Deaver
"As hot and steamy as a Louisiana night, this series debut hits all the right notes with the evocative Big Easy setting, colorful and memorable characters, and a smartly twisty plot. Bruns uses all of his considerable talents to cast a spell over readers"-- "Library Journal"
Casting Bones captivates the reader, pulling them into a New Orleans at once dark and colorful, where magic still weaves its way through life and its residents remain loyal despite the corruption of leaders. Casting Bones is a magnificent mystery that focuses on a very pertinent topic - the issue of private prisons and the corruption they encourage. Take a trip to the Big Easy and explore its depths in Casting Bones - if you like serious police procedurals you won't be disappointed.-- "Crittermom (Blogger)"
CASTING BONES by Don Bruns quickly cast a mystical spell over me and did not release me until the exciting finish. This police/crime thriller links edgy suspense with the moody, steamy setting of New Orleans as Bruns constructs a gripping plot with expertly realized characters. Vivid imagery in the descriptive, and seemingly effortless, prose bring the Big Easy to life, as well as giving authenticity to the myriad of unusual characters. I was so engaged in the storyline, as well as all the characters' interaction, I could not stand to put CASTING BONES down for any length of time. Don Bruns is a master storyteller with several exceptional series already to his credit. With this new series, I am sure he will garner even more fans. I anxiously await the next magical encounter between Archer and Solange in steamy New Orleans.--Tanzey Cutter "FreshFiction.com"
