Bible Women
Lindsay Hardin Freeman
(Author)Description
Women of the Bible have been trapped in dry and dusty literary caskets for centuries--but no more. In a groundbreaking book, author Lindsay Hardin Freeman identifies every woman who speaks in the Bible, providing their words, context, and historical background. Through these women, God spoke, intervened, changed, illustrated, and proclaimed the story of redemption.
We learn which women speak the most (hint: it's not Mary!) and which books of the Bible have the fewest words from women. We hear the only conversation in the Bible between a mother and daughter (and it's not pretty), the words of a woman who eats her own child, and the triumphant exclamation of a woman telling the world about the risen Christ.
Step into God's sacred circle of mothers, grandmothers, warriors, prophets, prostitutes, and murderers. You won't come out the same.
Expanded second edition features new ways to use and study the words and wisdom, updated content for today's context, and 93 prayers--one for each woman who speaks in the Bible.

Reviews
Author and visionary Lindsay Hardin Freeman brings us another great leap forward in comprehension of the realities of the female presentations in the Bible. Her diligent analysis of every line uttered by women in scripture delivers startling insights never before analyzed, nor understood, as parts of a deeper message regarding the female half of the human species. This gender, as we all know, is in desperate need of a healthier level of interaction and with Bible Women: All Their Words and Why They Matter, Lindsay Hardin Freeman offers us hope for a fresh platform of progress. -Barbara Forster, Human rights activist
Author Lindsay Hardin Freeman deftly coaxes into high relief the muffled voices of women in the Bible. We see ourselves in their anguish, estrangement, and life-giving passion and meet them in those very places in our lives. Each page calls us to be a daughter of God by stepping out of the past to share our own stories of transformation and learn the ways of God from one another. Cynthia Carson, Vice president, Province VII Order of the Daughters of the King Education for Ministry mentor, Sewanee School of Theology
In Bible Women: All Their Words and Why They Matter, Lindsay Hardin Freeman brings to light an entirely new and in-depth understanding of the often unrecognized contribution women made in the overall biblical narrative. Freeman's very adept biblical scholarship provides what I believe to be groundbreaking work in providing greater awareness and appreciation of the importance Bible women play in our sacred story. The Rt. Rev. Brian N. Prior, Bishop, Episcopal Church in Minnesota
Reading Bible Women is an opportunity to get reacquainted with not only the stories of biblical woman but also to reflect anew on their words and actions. Included here are some of the most familiar biblical women and, importantly, some of those not frequently the focus of study but introduced here with devotion and respect. An excellent resource for individual and group prayer and reflection. The Rev. Dr. Sheryl A. Kujawa-Holbrook, PhD, EdD, Dean of the faculty, Professor of practical theology and religious education, Claremont School of Theology, Claremont, California
