When not writing graphic novels, he takes on gigs as a quality control specialist in the video game industry. He currently lives in Maryland with his wife and goofy rescued mutt, as well as a housemate and that housemate's spunky Jack Russell mix.

JAMES PROIMOS JR. has written and illustrated over twenty children's books, including Apocalypse Bow Wow and the critically acclaimed picture book Year of the Jungle by Suzanne Collins. He's a former writer and creator for television, and a dad.

Reviews

"The Proimos father-and-son duo use fun dialogue; simple panel layouts; large-print word balloons; and goofy, scratchy black-and-white art to craft a story about a postapocalyptic future that won't scare young readers." - Booklist

"It's The Walking Dead with dogs. It's funny, action packed, and now my dogs know how to survive the apocalypse. I look forward to reading Brownie and Apollo's further adventures!" - Dan Santat, Caldecott Award-winning author and illustrator of THE ADVENTURES OF BEEKLE: THE UNIMAGINARY FRIEND on APOCALYPSE BOW WOW

"Uninhibitedly wacky . . . A potent combination of unhinged energy and poignant sentiment." - Publishers Weekly on APOCALYPSE BOW WOW

"[A] postapocalyptic story that younger readers can enjoy without seeing too much potentially scary mayhem." - Booklist on APOCALYPSE BOW WOW

"The simple black and white illustrations are effective for the tone and pace of the story, often adding additional humor to situations. . . . This book is really funny. Spread the word." - 100 Scope Notes on APOCALYPSE BOW WOW

"This is typical Proimos (Proimoi?) in its affable weirdness and loopy, slightly edgy cartoonish artwork. . . . [P]erfect for reluctant readers who need frequent breaks." - The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books on APOCALYPSE BOW WOW

"In four wordless spreads, Proimos makes Suzy's awakening powerfully clear." - starred review, Publishers Weekly on YEAR OF THE JUNGLE, illustrated by James Proimos Jr.

"Proimos's flat, cartoony drawings . . . are sturdy and sweet." - starred review, Booklist on YEAR OF THE JUNGLE, illustrated by James Proimos Jr
