Description

It's Gator's first day at his new office job, and he is surrounded by quirky personalities like the slow slug, the obedient dog, the aggressive hawk, and the chatty chicken. He is eager to fit in with his new co-workers, so he tries to be like them. But acting like everyone else doesn't work out for him, and he learns a valuable lesson about himself instead.

Featuring hand-drawn illustrations, vibrant colors, and rhymes, Animals at the Office sparks dialogue regarding first-day jitters, fitting in with new crowds, and embracing one's own special traits despite being surrounded by others who are different. Adults may relate to the featured characters based on their own experiences at an office and can use the book to talk more with children about their own job and what going to work means for them.

About the Author

Sarah originally started writing as an outlet from her own office job, but her lyrical writing style and love for rhymes comes from her first career in music where she performed globally as a classical clarinetist. She is a passionate animal enthusiast, and as a result, loves to incorporate animals into her stories. Sarah resides in Illinois and enjoys dark chocolate, sunshine, and Broadway shows.
Devan is a self-taught artist with a love for animals, nature, and weird things. She has spent 10 years using her passion for color to perfect her skills of creating textures with markers using mainly Sharpies. Her best friend is her cat, Punkin, a cute little feline that has helped inspire Devan to not give up on her dream of being an artist.

Reviews

"A fantastic read! Seriously, bosses should buy this book for all of their employees. Every person within an office setting will find inspiration. Children's books are not just for children! Sometimes, it's the artistic whimsy that affords us the opportunity to embrace our inner-selves and realize that we take life too seriously. We need to get to the core of who we are and not worry so much about our appearances. It's our inner-character, personality, and natural-born gifts that afford us the ability to do our best work and be our best selves. Love and accept yourself and you'll be able to love and accept others too. Not by adopting their behaviors or views but respecting them for who they are; in turn, they'll respect you too." - from Jennie Louwes, Reedsy Discovery
