Reviews
"This thoroughly convincing monograph is the definitive work on Texan influence over federal case law. The included political conflicts are tremendously compelling. Indispensable for constitutional historians, Texas historians, and scholars whose work considers sociopolitical influences in American jurisprudence, this book is a delight to read and a most engaging, dramatic account of legal history."--The Journal of American History
"...written by an expert with a deep knowledge of constitutional law who possesses a knack for the telling human detail...filled with wide- ranging opinions on the Supreme Court and its justices, Texas and Texans, and the workings of law and politics."--Southwestern Historical Quarterly
"Powe's accessible and well-researched account demonstrates why "Texas and not California...provides breadth and depth to constitutional adjudication" that has had the deepest impact on the nation's laws."--New York Review of Books
