About the Author
Tom Brennan was born in Massachusetts, met and married his wife Marnie there and moved to Alaska with her in 1967. They came to Alaska in search of adventure and arrived just as the search for oil on the North Slope was getting underway.Tom became a reporter for The Anchorage Times and was assigned to the oil beat just a few months after the big discovery was made at Prudhoe Bay. He was then recruited by the discoverer, Atlantic Richfield, to deal with the onslaught of writers and editors who feared oil would ruin Alaska and desecrate its unmatched wilderness. In that role he traveled throughout the North Country in vehicles ranging from Lear Jets to snowmobiles. He witnessed much of the real turmoil that resulted from the discovery and the wrenching changes it brought to the people of Alaska, their leaders and the men and women who work to keep them safe.
