About the Author
Kathryn I. Bel Monte has been a freelance writer for 20 years for publications including Essence Magazine and The Miami Times. She has produced historical and educational documentaries for television. Her great, great grandfather was a slave who fought for his freedom as a civil War soldier and is a featured hero. Bel Monte received her Masters in Education from Florida Atlantic University.
