The author of more than a dozen novels and story collections, Carlos Fuentes (1928-2012) was Mexico's most celebrated novelist and critic. He received numerous honors and awards throughout his lifetime, including the Miguel de Cervantes Prize and the Latin Literary Prize.
Laura Esquivel (Mexico City, 1950) is Mexico's best selling female author. Her first novel, Like Water for Chocolate, has been translated into more than 30 languages, sold millions of copies worldwide and inspired a critically acclaimed film. Sandra Cisneros is an American writer best known for her acclaimed first novel The House on Mango Street, and her subsequent short story collection, Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories.
