Description

Noah's family has just moved in to a new apartment on the 22nd floor when an Anna's hummingbird visits their balcony.

Soon the young boy notices a fuzzy nest being built--like Noah's family, this hummingbird is making a new home. This true story shows the hummingbird through Noah's eyes as he discovers how these birds feed, care for and raise their young. Alongside Noah's story are facts explaining where Anna's hummingbirds live, their role as pollinators and the threats they face from pollution, pesticides, urban predators and a warming climate. Readers will learn that with a few simple actions, we can all help hummingbirds survive and thrive in urban areas.

Reviews

"The author ensures that readers are given an astonishing number of facts about the hummingbird species...The author's research offers clear science for readers interested in learning more about these tiny treasures of nature. Her storytelling presents the touching tale of a boy whose patience and wonder allow the whole experience to unfold as it should."

-- "Sal's Fiction Addiction"

"The layout uses crisp full-color photographs featuring Noah's story, but also accompany rivers of facts about hummingbirds that alternate with that tale. Readers can follow the boy's story or dive into the details of this small, resilient species. While the nonfiction side of this bring veracity, it's very much a story of a tender child watching new life unfold, staying out of its way, and showing patience. With big hopes, tiny birds, and the blessing of scrutiny, this is perfect for story hours. The wonderful images keep perfect pace with the alternating narratives, which have much to say about patience, care, kindness, and results; a STEM must-buy."
