Whiteness 101
This is the first in series of lists that bring you the knowledge, background, and tools to think about and combat whiteness. The list offers a comprehensive look at the problems of whiteness and the need for anti-racist thinking, action, and change. Books on these lists represent a growing collective knowledge about whiteness, its formations, its bullshit about itself, and how we get free from it.
Whiteness 101 is where we start, the basics, the introductions, the books that lay the groundwork, raise the hard questions, and challenge us to think smarter about what it means to be white (or not) and to live white supremacist world. Books on this list provide a vocabulary for talking about whiteness; deal with major intersections of whiteness with class, gender, law, colonialism, and other forms of power; and feature some of the key voices who have shaped activists' and scholars' thinking about race and whiteness.
