My favorite book of 2020. Now in my top five novels of all time. Thanks to my longtime friend and sales rep Tom Benton for insisting on it after all these years. As a bookseller, I felt I had to focus on forthcoming titles, couldn’t go back to read something I missed. As a writer, I’m rediscovering and appreciating backlist. A Tale for the Tine Being is an especially perfect book. It explores the generational and cultural intersections between the Pacific Northwest and Japan, the coastal wild and the urban jungle, the spiritually lost and the creatively stunted. It partially takes place on Cortes Island, just next door to Read.
