Cracker

Cracker: A journey of self-discovery in this alternative history where everything is turned upside down. History is turned upside down when a virus attacks white slave owners, and blacks come to power. Fast forward to today, where African American's have power and privilege, and Caucasian American's are an oppressed minority. Ann faces what she hates most, the first day at a new High School. She looks for the quiet table in the loud and colorful cafeteria, to find the other white kids. There she meets Jim, white, gay, and Jewish. He calls it, "The trifecta of discrimination." Jim has secrets of his own, and his offer to pretend to be Ann’s boyfriend, keeps them both safe, for a while. When Ann meets Kayode, things change, and suddenly it has never been so important for Ann to find her voice against the prejudice and systemic injustice she's been born into. When Ann learns the truth about her father, she must make a decision. Is it time to speak out against the injustices keeping her people oppressed, even though she could end up in jail? Ann keeps hearing that things are changing, but it is true? Is the world ready to accept her for who she is and whom she wants to love? Author’s note: This book comes with a discussion guide to begin a dialogue about things like systemic injustice, microaggression, bullying, and privilege. My hope is that we can all learn together how to rise up against racism and oppression.

But What If We're Wrong?: One Evangelical's Take on the LGBTQ Issue

Jacci Turner

$5.38

But what if we’re wrong about the gay thing. Think about that for a moment. WWJD? This booklet is one Evangelical Christian's journey trying to answer the question, "What if we're wrong about the 'gay' thing?" The implications of this question have kept me up at night. With the church polarized on this issue, there is little room for dialogue. I'm not a theologian, but I've been following Jesus for thirty-seven and have spent most of those years in full-time ministry. I have seen firsthand His love of and commitment to the marginalized. This booklet follows my journey from being a board member of a local Exodus group to an ally in the LGBTQ community. Author's note. This booklet marks a moment in time when I was trying to sort things out. In the six years since I wrote this little booklet, a lot has changed. I would not consider myself evangelical anymore. It's as if my tribe left me, or booted me out over this one issue. I lost my job, my church, and many of my friends. Guess what? I made the right choice and have no regrets. I'm still a Christ follower and growing in my faith, despite what others might believe. This is a huge human rights issue, a justice issue. This is about loving people unconditionally. WDJD -- What did Jesus do? He loved the marginalized, all of them. The only people he ever got mad at were the religious folks when they tried to keep people away from him with their man-made religion. Life should be lived by the greatest commandments: Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. I'm going to spend the rest of my life trying to do those two things. That is all I need to worry about.
