On Dawn's Shelf: "Great fun! A globetrotting mystery adventure with a quirky cast that includes a frighteningly competent body guard, her curmudgeonly ex-copper father-in-law, and her high-rolling author client — plus bosses and bad guys, celebrities and wannabes, a cat called Trouble and a pub quiz team. You might have some of the mystery solved by the end, but Osman's writing is so compelling you'll read at a gallop and be happy for the ride. (You'll even forgive him for taking a break from the Thursday Murder Club crew to launch this new series!)"
Rainbow Rowell
Hardback
$28.00
$26.04
On Nicole's Shelf: "If you liked 'Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow,' this is your next read. Rowell is serving up the same 'Oregon Trail Generation' nostalgia but in a blue-collar setting that I found a little more resonant. Shiloh and Cary were just friends — two members of a tightknit, three-person friend group — always kind of on the verge of being something more. Fourteen years after high school graduation, the other member of their trio is getting married and Shiloh and Cary are reunited at the wedding. Rowell deftly shifts us back and forth through time, slowly revealing the depths of their past relationship while making us agonize about whether they can find a way back to each other in the present. One of the best slow-burn romances I've read in awhile, 'Slow Dance' is bittersweet, relatable and ultimately satisfying."

On Sara's Shelf: "Romance, magic, a talking spider plant and cottagecore galore! Ever the dedicated, yet reclusive librarian, Kiela saves as many spellbooks as she can when her library is burned during a rebellion. With her books, and best friend spider plant Caz, Kiela sails to the island home she hasn't seen since she was a small child and opens a jam shop selling the occasional 'remedy.' While magic is forbidden, Kiela takes a risk and uses her rescued spellbooks to help revive the town she is growing to love again. And after years spent alone in the library, Kiela is surprised to find she wants friends and even more surprised when she finds romance. 'The Spellshop' is the cozy, low stakes romantasy that kept me smiling from the first page to the last."
Jessica Joyce
Paperback
$19.00
$17.67
On Benjie's Shelf: "As best woman in her childhood friend Adam's wedding, Georgia has many responsibilities, the most difficult of which is pretending she doesn't still have feelings for best man, Eli. When Georgia and Eli broke up 5 years ago, Georgia promised herself she wouldn't make things messy for Adam. So when Adam's all-inclusive wedding venue burns to the ground mere weeks before the ceremony, Georgia agrees to team up with Eli (who is flying back to Napa Valley from his home in NYC) to help Adam and his fiancée pull off a miracle and organize a dream wedding. Georgia and Eli have off-the-charts chemistry and romantic tension, and their story has real emotional depth. If you haven't already read Jessica Joyce's previous novel (You, with a View), I predict you will find yourself adding it to your TBR after this one. Jessica Joyce has earned a spot on my favorite authors list, right alongside Emily Henry and Abby Jimenez!"

On Zoe's Shelf: "Daphne Bell believes in destiny, especially when it comes to love. Every time she meets a new man, she receives a slip of paper with his name and how long the relationship will last on it. When she goes on a blind date one night, she receives a slip of paper with the name Jake. As their romance begins, Daphne starts to question fate and what that means for their relationship. This thoughtful novel will make you wonder what makes a meaningful relationship and how our past influences them."

On Dawn's Shelf: "Gather as much knowledge as you can, because information is power. And choosing how to use it is freedom. The more you know, the freer you will be." "An incredibly relevant, entertainingly satirical story of high school rivals dueling over a small town's heart and soul through the issue of banned books and one sneaky adjustment to the contents of a little free library. In turns sweet, messy, sharp-edged, and deadly serious, it had me smirking, nodding along, and riveted till the end. If you liked 'The Reading List' and fervently believe in the power of books to change the world, get your hands on this one!"

On Nicole's Shelf: "I want you to close your eyes and actually remember what it was like to be 20." Margo is a college student who is sleeping with her professor and gets pregnant. That's where the story begins, but I could not have predicted where it would go from there. This is not the tired story you think it is, and Margo is not a stereotype (though the world certainly views her as one). Every character in this universe is fully formed, flawed and complex. Your brain will inevitably try to sort bad guys from good guys (or heels from faces as Margo's ex-WWE father would say), but it's not even close to being that simple. There are so many fresh and interesting and unexpected elements here that I've thought for weeks about how to get them all into a short review. How do you summarize so succinctly a story about power and consent, autonomy and community, addiction and ambition, childhood and parenthood, survival and control, professional wrestling and porn, love and agony? I don't think I've figured it out, but maybe the point is that it's weeks later and I still think about this book every single day. It's one of those rarest of gems — compulsively readable and highly enjoyable fiction that is also undeniably a work of art. It demands deep thought and quiet contemplation; it demands to be seen and deserves to be discussed. It's already been picked up for a TV series, so do yourself a favor and don't wait... This is the one that I'll be recommending to EVERYONE this summer.

On Sara's Shelf: I'll cut to the chase with this book because it is so good! A Tempest of Tea has everything I love, a heist, a gang of misfits, witty banter, found family, romance, AND vampires. Arthie Casimir is the owner of a elite tearoom by day and blood house for vampires at night. When her business is threatened, she and her crew team up with a couple of unlikely allies to infiltrate vampire society to steal the leverage she needs to keep her club afloat. If you liked Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows, this one is for you!

On Nicole's Shelf: "Absolutely bonkers, in the best way! I love a novel that just drops me into the character's world and lets me figure out what the heck is going on right alongside them. The premise of this novel (Lauren's attic suddenly starts generating husbands for her) kicks in immediately. There are rules: there is only one husband at a time, every time one goes up into the attic a new one comes back down and each new husband brings a slightly altered version of Lauren's life and reality. For a novel with such a zany premise, the story is also grounded in a way that you might not expect. The husbands may be 'disposable' but Lauren, the life (lives?) she leads, the people she loves and the choices she makes all feel very real. Equal parts hilarious, charming, nail-biting, and thought-provoking, 'The Husbands' is like nothing I've read before. I enjoyed the ride immensely!"

On Dawn's Shelf: A genre-bending love story between an impulsive, passionate would-be florist and an intriguing and intrigued has-been master musician. Fans of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and The Midnight Library should pick this one up! Stacked and packed with creativity and vitality, it’s a blend of steamy contemporary romance, sparkling historical fiction, time-addling magic and mystery, and dark drama populated by characters who are hilarious, powerful, misplaced, wise, awkward, desperate, generous, and nuanced. And if that word cloud hasn’t swayed you … it celebrates Black history, Black resilience, Black art, Black joy, and timeless Black love in a tale spun of music and mayhem, flowers and fashion, Harlem and history, found family, wry commentary, and fated love. What voodoo allowed Tia Williams to get *gestures expansively* all that into one impressively coherent love story?

On Benjie's Shelf: You'll want to clear your schedule before you pick this one up! This book had all the things I love in a good thriller — characters you like (but don't necessarily trust), high stakes, genuine emotion, and plenty of twists to keep me reading. Evie Porter is lying to her new boyfriend Ryan. That is clear from the start. Less clear is why. And as the story progresses and the reader learns more about Evie's motivations, it becomes clear that Evie is not the only one keeping secrets.

On Benjie's Shelf: Mallory's history with chess is complicated. She walked away from it four years ago without looking back. So when she winds up at a charity chess tournament as a favor to a friend, no one is more surprised than Mallory at what happens next. Enter Nolan Sawyer, reigning world champion, and his bad-boy reputation, and suddenly Mallory's past is very much a part of her present and may be the only way forward. I could not love this book more. Hazelwood has absolutely knocked it out of the park with this YA debut.

On Dawn's Shelf: "People are always trying to claim you, without ever listening to who you are."" Is cozy noir a thing? This is a classic Golden Age noir mystery with a cozier feel and a less cynical tone. The mystery itself is intriguing: The suspicious death of Irene Lamontaine, head of a famous soap empire, has her unconventional family on edge in their glam estate, Lavender House. Recently outed and ousted San Francisco cop Andy Mills is hired by Lamontaine's widow to investigate. What really shines here, though, is the gilded cage 1950s setting, the found family of characters, the lurking secrets, and the questions of identity. Pair this one with "Last Night at the Telegraph Club" a multi-award-wining YA historical set in the same era and area.

On Benjie's Shelf: I loved this cozy fantasy about Cambridge professor Emily Wilde's adventures researching the faeries native to the remote lands surrounding the small northern town of Hrafsnvik. While she is brilliant at research, Emily is not skilled at making friends, unintentionally offending most of the townsfolk upon her arrival. When her colleague and rival, the dashing Wendell Bambleby shows up, Emily is decidedly unhappy to see him, but he manages to convince Emily that they will accomplish more working together and the resulting adventures were delightful. This book was the perfect blend of faerie folklore, found friendships, and just a touch of romance. I'm already looking forward to the next installment of Emily's adventures.

On Dawn's Shelf: My favorite by Abby Jimenez so far! Genuinely laugh-out-loud funny but anchored with realistic struggles, touching sincerity, and heartfelt pining. Oh, the pining! (And a textbook cinnamon roll book boyfriend. Seriously too pure for this world. Major swoon score.)
