Originally inspired by the Hogarth Shakespeare series (all of which are included here), this is a list that collects re-imaginings and retellings of the plays of William Shakespeare by modern fiction authors. 

The list begins with three novels inspired by William Shakespeare's life, then a tale about a "lost" play, proceeds to two novels by Christopher Moore (an author who tends to refuse to align his books strictly with one play), and then two novels inspired by Shakespeare's heroines (Enter the Body) and villains (If We Were Villains).  Subsequent titles are grouped together by play.
