Evelyn Waugh$16.99 $15.63
Beautiful saga of the height and decline of an English Catholic aristocratic family before, during, and after World War II. Also an excellent television series starring Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews that hits the nail on the script just perfectly.
Gerald Durrell$17.00 $15.64
Hilarious historical account of British and Greek culture before the war through the eyes of an eccentric naturalist and his wacky family.
A fun way to learn about some early Christian history, including Constantine and his mother, Helena, and her finding of the True Cross.
Read all about an essential satirist and drama king of early 20th century British culture.
Edith Stein was a renowned philosopher who studied phenomenology in its beginnings with Edmund Husserl. She eventually converted to Catholicism from Judaism and entered a cloistered Carmelite order, only to be hunted down and gassed by the Nazis at Auschwitz. She has some other excellent philosophical and theological writings, but I recommend her autobiography before anything else. Very good.
