Based on young adult novels published before 2010

Sometimes reading backlisted novels really pays off. Here are a list of books published before 2010 that I read between 2016-2020 that have merited placement on this list.

Mistborn: The Final Empire

Brandon Sanderson

$35.99 $32.39

Bradon Sanderson's books will forever be classic reads as they are so beloved. This book, in particular, is great for an introduction to the higher fantasy genre. It has a heist plot and how much more do I really need to say?

Vampire Academy

Richelle Mead

$11.99 $11.03

This series has pretty much everything you could ask for. A magical school setting, paranormal creatures, age-gap romance, slow-burn romance, mystery, action and training, and royalty. If none of that convinced you, after raving about this series, my dad decided to read this series and the spin-off series because he enjoyed them so much.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

J. K. Rowling and Mary Grandpré

$26.99 $24.29

This includes the entirety of the series.

The Hobbit, Or, There and Back Again (Young Reader)

J. R. R. Tolkien

$10.99 $10.11

A classic and for good reason.

The Angel Experiment: A Maximum Ride Novel

James Patterson

$10.99 $10.11

I can only speak on the first 5 novels in the series but they were excellent.

Kristin Cashore

$10.99 $10.11

Everyone always recommends Graceling by this author but I preferred this companion novel about human monsters who can be identified through hair color.

Poison Study (Original)

Maria V. Snyder

$13.95 $12.83

Truly ahead of its time in representation. The characterization is also unforgettable and so engaging that this might be your next binge read.
