What Makes Great Group Reads Lists Different?
Many publications and organizations put out lists of recommended reading, but those lists are typically put together by a few individuals over a few days or weeks. Great Group Reads, however, has a committee of readers who commit to read books between April and July of each year. There are discussions, rounds of reading, and hundreds of hours dedicated to choosing the list each year.
The WNBA uses the Great Group Reads lists for its own book club and holds events with Great Group Reads authors throughout the year.
What is Great Group Reads
Great Group Reads (GGR) is part of the National Reading Group Month initiative of the Women’s National Book Association. Since its creation in 2009, Great Group Reads has become a highly regarded and anticipated resource for reading groups, individual facilitators, educators, bookstores, and libraries to recommend books.
Publishers send the Great Group Reads committee hundreds of books for the committee to read with the hope that their book(s) will be chosen for the current year's list.
