"Melanie Joy's book [[is an important and groundbreaking contribution to the struggle for the welfare of animals. It]] explains eloquently how the global system of animal exploitation has been created, what keeps it going, and how it puts an unbearable burden on billions of creatures without most of us paying attention or feeling any need to change the situation. It helps us step outside the box of "carnism" so that we are better positioned to think critically and be a part of the solution, helping to create a more compassionate and sustainable world." --Yuval Harari, New York Times bestselling author of Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind--Yuval Harari
