Description

This one-of-a-kind treasury brings together the talents of nearly two dozen bestselling middle-grade authors including Shannon Hale, Brandon Mull, Ally Condie and Jennifer A. Nielsen-who have created original short stories, modern-day fairy tales, based on the lives and dreams of children they have met who all have two things in common: They have very big hopes and dreams and they are all cancer patients. Each short story is prefaced by a brief bio of the child and is accompanied by photographs of the child, fully costumed and digitally inserted into a background-A baker, a dancer, a superhero, a dragon fighter, a sports star, a princess and more- that makes them the hero of their own modern-day fairy tale story written by one of their favorite authors.

Reviews

Original fairy tales and hero stories written by authors inspired by Diaz's photography...Each tale is unique and begins with a short description of the child, his or her personal story, and the photograph...Vibrant photographs of children who are battling cancer. An inspiring anthology of well-told short stories accompanied by beautiful visuals."
-- "School Library Journal" (8/1/2015 12:00:00 AM)
"Shannon Hale offers a tale of a warrior princess imprisoned in a tower by goblins who shave her head so she can't escape à la Rapunzel, and Brandon Mull gives readers a costumed young superhero redirecting a vengeful bullying victim onto the moral high road; both stories are strong and effective...There's quality here...The worthy purpose shines through."-- "Kirkus" (8/1/2015 12:00:00 AM)
