About the Author

Gary Soto is the author of more than a dozen poetry collections for adults, most notably New and Selected Poems, a 1995 finalist for both the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the National Book Award. He also writes young adult fiction and has received numerous awards, including the Human and Civil Rights Award from the American Education Association, the Literature Award from the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, and the PEN Center West Book Award for his young adult short-story collection Petty Crimes.

F. Isabel Campoy is the author of numerous children's books in the areas of poetry, theatre, stories, biographies, and art. She is a six-time recipient of Junior Guild Award, ALA Notable Book Award, International Latino Children's Book Award, San Francisco Library Award, and the Reading the World Award from the University of San Francisco. CABE (The American Association for Bilingual Education) has established in her name an endowment to provide scholarships for future teachers.
Alma Flor Ada, an authority on multicultural and bilingual education, is the recipient of the 2012 Virginia Hamilton Literary Award, and in 2014 she was honored by the Mexican government with the prestigious OHTLI Award. She is the author of numerous award-winning books for young readers, including Dancing Home with Gabriel Zubizarreta, My Name Is Marรญa Isabel, Under the Royal Palms (Pura Belprรฉ Medal), Where the Flame Trees Bloom, and The Gold Coin (Christopher Award Medal).
