"What a good book! I was really challenged by it. It represents a holistic approach to leadership and provides practical ideas on the behaviors, habits, disciplines, and attitudes that leaders must learn and develop that ultimately lead to organizational transformation. Dr. Habecker's style will keep you engaged by providing constructive and relevant examples from more than thirty years as president/CEO. Prepare to be challenged, empowered, and motivated to cultivate the softer side of leadership."--Manuel Rosado, MBA, Vice President/Partner, Spectrum Investment Advisors, Inc
"Too often, universities, businesses, and non-profit organizations focus and reward leadership skills that maximize productivity innovation, and return-on-investment. While these 'hard skills' are critical to the success of any organization, there is growing recognition that the most effective leaders have mastered the 'softer side of leadership.' Lacking soft skills such as integrity, character, honest communication, and love for people have resulted in corrupt business practices, cultural clashes, and myopic strategic vision, ultimately destroying leaders and their organizations. Dr. Habecker's research and decades of experience provide candid insights into effective transformative leadership. The Softer Side of Leadership is a must-read for everyone to more effectively manage themselves and leading others."--The Honorable Stephen L. Johnson, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under President George W. Bush
"A wonderful new collection of thoughts exploring all the critical skills any leader should consider employing. In his latest book, Gene Habecker opens up a lifetime's experience of leadership in business and academia for all to share. He brings rich insights and learning, revealing the full gamut of soft skills needed for effective leadership. He brings this thinking with a careful biblical underpinning to each element. A marvelous and well-considered leadership text for any missiological leader."--Julie Farrar-Tarpey, Consultant, People and Organisational Development, Human Dimensions Development, Ltd, UK
"I had the privilege of being mentored by Dr. Habecker during our work together at the American Bible Society. Gene is definitely a practitioner of the principles he expounds in this book. He is gentle, but firm; affirming, but challenging; trusting but verifying. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to be a transformational leader. It will bring you closer to your goal."--Emilio A. Reyes, DD, Vice President, Latin America, OneHope, Inc.
"My friend, Dr. Eugene Habecker, captures the heartbeat of Christ like leadership. In The Softer Side of Leadership, Gene teaches leaders how to effectively care for themselves and the people they serve every day. The best part is that he practices what he preaches. Whether you're a CEO, pastor, or parent, I urge you to come sit at the feet of this wise, seasoned shepherd. Not only will you become a more effective leader, you'll become a happier, holier person as well."--Roy Peterson, President & CEO, American Bible Society
"A must-read for all active and aspiring leaders in business and non-profit sectors, as well as in churches and mission agencies. This is a practical and creative exposition of soft skills, seen as indispensable competencies for effective leadership. Here is an invaluable resource for all leaders, particularly for those longing to be 'the salt of the earth' in 'winner take all' environments."--Fergus Macdonald, PhD, Honorary Chairperson, Lausanne Committee, and retired General Secretary, United Bible Societies
"I needed this book. I needed the vivid reminders, the fresh insights and the compelling perspectives. Frankly, I don't ever remember reading a book on leadership that I didn't want to put down. Until this one. One chapter after another provided conviction, grace, and hope. They were a magnet to my heart, water to a thirsty soul. Gene Habecker has been a leader I've respected for many years. His insights are tested and true. Honesty, humility, and wisdom mark each page. Prepare to be inspired."--Dan Wolgemuth, President/CEO, Youth for Christ
