About the Author

Jennifer Torres's debut picture book, Finding the Music, was published by Lee & Low Books in spring 2015, and her middle grade novel Stef Soto, Taco Queen was published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in fall 2016. She works at University of the Pacific, where she leads a countywide campaign to promote early literacy. Before joining Pacific, Jennifer worked as a reporter for The Record newspaper, covering education, children, and families, and she continues to write for local and national magazines. Originally from Southern California, she has lived in the Central Valley for the past 10 years with her husband, David, and daughters Alice and Soledad.

Henry Lien is a 2012 graduate of Clarion West, and his short fiction has appeared in publications like Asimov's, earning several Nebula Award nominations. Born in Taiwan, Henry currently lives in Hollywood, California. He is the author of Peasprout Chen, Future Legend of Skate and Sword.

Kwame Alexander is a poet, educator, and the New York Times best-selling author of more than thirty-five books, including Rebound, the follow-up to his Newbery medal-winning middle grade novel, The Crossover. Some of his other works include Booked, which was longlisted for the National Book Award, The Playbook: 52 Rules to Help You Aim, Shoot, and Score in this Game of Life, Swing, and the picture books Out of Wonder and The Undefeated, which was longlisted for the National Book Award and won the Caldecott Medal, a Newbery Honor, and the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award.

He is a regular contributor to NPR's Morning Edition, currently serving as their poet ambassador.
