About the Author

Karen Cushman has a lifelong interest in history. She says, "I wanted to know what ordinary life was like for ordinary young people in other times." Like Francine, Karen was a young girl in southern California during the McCarthy era, and like Francine, she was shy and reluctant to speak up. She now lives on Vashon Island, west of Seattle, WA. karencushman.com, @acushmanbooks.
