Snakes are very enigmatic creatures. They are feared, hated, and maligned. Yet probably less than fifteen percent of the world's approximately 3,000 snake species, are venomous. Further breaking these percentages down, in North America there are approximately 150 species of snakes. Of these, only some 20 species are venomous. These venomous snakes can be broken down into four groups: Rattlesnakes, Copperheads, Water Moccasin/Cottonmouths, and Coral Snakes. Texas has all four of these groups of venomous snakes.
