About the Author

Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm was a German philologist, jurist, and mythologist. He is known as the discoverer of Grimm's law (linguistics), the co-author with his brother Wilhelm of the monumental Deutsches Wörterbuch, the author of Deutsche Mythologie and, more popularly, as one of the Brothers Grimm and the editor of Grimm's Fairy Tales.

Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859) studied law in the early 1800s but became much better known as an accomplished and passionate storyteller and, with his brother Jacob, one of the Grimm Brothers, who gave the world the groundbreaking and fantastic collection of folklore, fairy stories, and fantasy tales we now call Grimm's Fairy Tales.
Maria Tatar is the John L. Loeb Professor of Germanic Languages and Literature and chairs the Program in Folklore and Mythology at Harvard University, Massachusetts. She is author of The Annotated Brothers Grimm (2012), Enchanted Hunters: The Power of Stories in Childhood (2009) and other volumes.
