About the Author

Dawn Gifford is a work-at-home mom to a spirited 8 year-old girl, but before she became a mom, she was a Master Gardener and Master Composter, horticulture teacher and Cooperative Extension agent, as well as a certified arborist and Permaculture designer. She founded one of the first greenroof companies and social enterprises in the nation (D.C. Greenworks), and spent most of the last 15 years developing award-winning workforce training programs for "green-collar" environmental jobs in tree care, greenroofing and bioretention, and urban agriculture. Turning her interests to home and hearth after becoming a mother, she created Small Footprint Family to share her experience in sustainable living with a wider audience. Dawn writes articles and books about: - saving money while conserving water, energy, oil, trees and other natural resources; - whole food nutrition and eco-friendly food choices (including tons of grain-free and dairy-free recipes); DIY and sustainable family living; - non-toxic homes and natural healthcare; and gardening, homesteading and permaculture. The aim of this book (and the mission of Small Footprint Family) is to give you the resources you need to make powerful choices that improve your health and well-being- and thereby the health and well-being of the only planet we've been blessed with.
