About the Author

Kate Russell is a writer based on the beautiful Gold Coast, Australia. "Shadow of a Soldier" is her first novel. In 2009, Kate, together with her writing group, "The Ten Penners", self-published a book of fantasy stories for children, "Fan-tas-tic-al Tales". Kate is a member of the Gold Coast Writers' Association, Queensland Writers Centre, and Sisters in Crime. Kate has five other novels in various stages of completion - two young adult novels featuring a teenage witch, a comic crime novel, a romantic suspense novel set during the silent movie era in Australia, and a stand alone young adult novel with fantasy elements set during the 1800's. Kate loves to read and is a big fan of young adult novels. She also loves fantasy and mystery. Some of Kate's favourite authors are JK Rowling, Jasper Fforde, John Green, Neil Gaiman, Kate Morton, Sue Grafton, Janet Evanovich, Philip Reeve, Philip Pullman, Eoin Colfer, Mary Norton, Daphne Du Maurier, Jane Austen, Cassandra Clare, Diana Gabaldon, Charlaine Harris, KM Peyton, JRR Tolkien, TH White - the list goes on and on! And there are always more great authors and books to discover... Kate has been a Whovian all her life and is also addicted to several other television series such as "Game of Thrones", "Downton Abbey", "Mr Selfridge", "Wayward Pines", "Sleepy Hollow", "Penny Dreadful", "The Following", "Dexter", "Outlander", "A Place to Call Home" and, most recently, the new series of "Poldark". (Don't tell anybody, but Kate is old enough to remember the original series!) She is also an "X-Files" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fan from way back. Kate's love of books and reading comes from her mother. She was always surrounded by books as a child and her own collection continues to grow. She hopes that she can live long enough to read everything on her "to read" pile!
