About the Author

George MacDonald (1824-1905) was a Scottish author, philosopher, and theologian. He wrote was is considered the first modern fantasy novel Phantastes, as well as children's stories, adult novels, and numerous theological essays and sermons. His work influenced some of the most well-known writers of the early twentieth century such as G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Mark Twain, Neil Gaiman, and Madeleine L'Engle.
John Pennington, professor of English at St. Norbert College, specializes in Victorian fairy tales and is the editor of North Wind: The Journal of George MacDonald Studies.
Roderick McGillis, emeritus professor of English at University of Calgary, has written widely on MacDonald and edited several essay collections of George MacDonald scholarship.
