A charming and delectably sweet debut. Mischief, friendship, and a whole lot of heart--Love Sugar Magic has it all. --Zoraida Córdova, award-winning author of the Brooklyn Brujas series
Leonora Logroño's family owns the most beloved bakery in Rose Hill, Texas, spending their days conjuring delicious cookies and cakes for any occasion. And no occasion is more important than the annual Dia de los Muertos festival.
Leo hopes that this might be the year that she gets to help prepare for the big celebration--but, once again, she is told she's too young. Sneaking out of school and down to the bakery, she discovers that her mother, aunt, and four older sisters have in fact been keeping a big secret: they're brujas--witches of Mexican ancestry--who pour a little bit of sweet magic into everything that they bake.
Leo knows that she has magical ability as well and is more determined than ever to join the family business--even if she can't let her mama and hermanas know about it yet.
And when her best friend, Caroline, has a problem that needs solving, Leo has the perfect opportunity to try out her craft. It's just one little spell, after all...what could possibly go wrong?

About the Author
Anna Meriano grew up in Houston, graduated from Rice University with a degree in English, and earned her MFA in creative writing with an emphasis in writing for children from the New School in New York. She has taught creative writing and high-school English and works as a writing tutor.
Kyla Garcia is an AudioFile Earphones Award-winning narrator. Born and raised in Hoboken, New Jersey, she discovered acting at the age of eight when she played Lady Macbeth in a children's adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy. She made her off-Broadway debut at fifteen when she played Dorothy in Oz: A Twisted Musical. Eleven years after she discovered her passion for acting, she would go on to play Lady Macbeth once again in London at the Globe Theatre, where she studied Shakespeare during her third year at Mason Gross School of the Arts. She received her BFA in acting from Rutgers University.
Listeners will delight in this fun debut, the first installment in a planned series. Leonora is an 11-year-old Tejano girl who has recently discovered that her family's tradition of baking is rooted in brujeria-witchcraft. Narrator Kyla Garcia switches deftly from an English narration to a Spanish recitation of the magical recipes in Leo's family's old cookbook. Leo isn't fluent in Spanish, so she uses a dictionary to translate the recipes, ensuring that listeners who don't know Spanish will still understand the essential ingredients. The diverse supporting characters are well developed, aided by Garcia's exceptional narration. Each character gets a unique voice that fits his or her personality. These ingredients imbue the audiobook with a little magic of its own, sure to create loyal fans of the new series. S.P. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award-- "AudioFile"
