About the Author
Mark Russell is the author of not one, but two, books about the Bible: God Is Disappointed in You and Apocrypha Now. In addition, he is the writer behind various DC comic books such as Prez, The Flintstones, and Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles. He lives in obscurity with his family in Portland, Oregon.
Shannon Wheeler is an American cartoonist best known for creating the satirical superhero Too Much Coffee Man, and as a cartoonist for The New Yorker. He started cartooning while at UC Berkeley, publishing his daily gag cartoons Calaboose and then Tooth and Justice in The Daily Californian. He moved to Austin, Texas and created the satirical superhero Too Much Coffee Man as the star of a weekly comic strip in 1990. He eventually published the character in a series of self-published zines, comic books, magazines, and webcomics for a number of years, culminating in 2006 with the Too Much Coffee Man Opera (in one act), followed by Too Much Coffee Man Opera, The Refill (in two acts) in 2008. Wheeler's weekly strip Postage Stamp Funnies appeared in the satirical newspaper The Onion until 2009, when he began contributing to The New Yorker magazine. In 2010, Wheeler published a collection of his cartoons rejected by The New Yorker called I Thought You Would Be Funnier.
"Mr. Russell and Mr. Wheeler have used irreverence to win an audience for what is actually a slyly empathetic retelling of Bible stories." -- The New York Times "As soon as I started reading it, I was hooked... The Bible is an incredibly weird book, and I thank Mark Russell for rewriting it in a way that made it understandable and interesting." -- Boing Boing "God Is Disappointed in You accomplishes an impressive goal: it takes the holy book--as inscrutable and culturally significant as it is--and makes it readable." -- The Rumpus "The Bible itself may be timeless, but, with its playful ribbing and wit, God Is Disappointed in You is most certainly a book made for this moment." -- Culture Mass "A hilarious book that's often shocking, sometimes blasphemous, but always funny with a huge heart. This is Sunday School for the information age." -- Graphic Policy "God Is Disappointed in You cuts to the heart of the matter, and sometimes down to the funny bone, to translate the Bible into terms that allow a modern reader to understand the wild, weird, and wonderful 'essence' of the Good Book." -- The Big Think
