About the Author

Iain M. Banks (1954 - 2013), one of the United Kingdom's most popular authors of science fiction, wrote such highly regarded novels as Consider Phlebas, Excession, and Inversions. Under the name "Iain Banks," he also published mainstream fiction, including such novels as The Wasp Factory and A Song of Stone.

Peter Kenny is a talented and experienced actor, voice-over artist, singer, musician, and designer, with over twenty-five years of experience working in theater, film, television, and audio. In recent years he has achieved great critical acclaim for multicharacter recordings of audiobooks by authors such as Iain Banks, Christopher Priest, and Edmund St Aubyn.

It's a testament to Peter Kenny's performance that all the increasingly bizarre names sound entirely normal. Also, he creates characterizations so distinctly that stretches in which no speaker is identified are easily understood. He really cuts loose in his portrayal of the cannibalistic Eater holy man, who speaks, it seems, through a dripping patina of mucous and sweat.

-- "AudioFile"

Banks demonstrates a talent for suspense in a new wave sf novel that should appeal to fans of space adventure.

-- "Library Journal"

Imaginative and gripping.

-- "Kirkus Reviews"

There is now no British SF writer to whose work I look forward with greater keenness.

-- "Times (London), praise for the author "
