About the Author
Hendrikus Berkhof (1914-1995) was a Dutch Reformed pastor, scholarly theologian, seminary rector, and world-renowned churchman. He participated in the German Confessing Church movement of the 1930s and was one of the top executives in the World Council of Churches, 1954-74. As a prolific author, he is best known for his masterpiece in doctrinal theology, Christelijk Geloof (Christian Faith), 1973, and his Christus de zin der geschiedenis (Christ, the Meaning of History), 1958. Christus en de machten (Christ and the Powers), was first published in 1952.
John Howard Yoder (1927-97) taught ethics and theology as a professor at Notre Dame University and Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary and was perhaps the most well-known Mennonite theologian in the twentieth century. Widely sought around the world as a theological educator, ethicist, and interpreter of biblical pacifism, he is best known for his study on The Politics of Jesus.
